Most MSMEs Offer Free Shipping Promotions on Marketplaces

Research by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) shows that micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) on marketplaces offer a variety of promotions in their stores. The most common promotion is free shipping, as stated by 66% of respondents.

57% of respondents offer discounts, 32% offer cashback, and 18% offer flash sales. Meanwhile, 8% of respondents do not offer any promotions in their stores.

A number of MSMEs reported being helped by various programs held by marketplaces during the Covid-19 pandemic. 50% of respondents said they benefited from special day promotions from Shopee, such as Shopee 12.12, Shopee 3.3, and Gajian Sale.

12% of respondents said they benefited from special promotions from Tokopedia such as Waktu Indonesia Belanja. Then, 5% of respondents benefited from cashback discount programs from Bukalapak for super seller feature customers. Meanwhile, 4% of respondents benefited from special promotional days from Lazada, such as Lazada 12.12 and Lazada 3.3.

The KIC research, titled "MSME Study Report 2021: The Role of Marketplaces for MSMEs," was conducted on 392 MSMEs in Jabodetabek, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and Medan. The survey was conducted from March 24 to April 9, 2021.
