Amidst Numerous Hacker Attacks by Bjorka, What is the Trend of BSSN's Budget Over the Past 5 Years?

Cyberattacks by hackers like Bjorka are increasingly prevalent in Indonesia. This is a cause for concern, especially given that millions of Indonesian citizens' personal data, including that of state officials and other crucial state data, have allegedly been compromised by Bjorka.

Most recently, the DPR Commission I approved a budget allocation of Rp624 billion for the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) in 2023. This budget is intended, in part, to protect Indonesia's cyberspace from cyberattacks such as those carried out by hackers like Bjorka.

“The DPR RI Commission I approved the definitive budget allocation, or what is commonly called the definitive budget ceiling of the 2023 BSSN State Budget (RAPBN) of Rp 624.37 billion,” said Deputy Chairman of Commission I DPR Utut Adianto, as quoted by Tempo.co on Thursday (22/9).

The budget will fund two programs: national cyber and crypto agency management (Rp407.14 billion) and national cybersecurity, resilience, and crypto program (Rp217.22 billion).

According to Book II of the State Budget (RAPBN) Financial Note and Draft for Fiscal Year 2023, the BSSN budget has fluctuated over the past five years.

The 2023 BSSN RAPBN budget has only slightly increased compared to this year. In the 2022 outlook, the BSSN budget was Rp507.8 billion.

In 2021, the BSSN budget reached Rp1.41 trillion. Furthermore, the national cybersecurity agency's expenditure budget even reached Rp2.27 trillion in 2019, the highest in the last five years.
