During President Raisi's term, Iranian unemployment reached a record low.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash. International media outlets announced the incident on Monday, May 20, 2024.

"Ebrahim Raisi was confirmed dead after the helicopter he was in crashed during bad weather," quoted from *Al Jazeera*'s report (May 20, 2024).

According to *Al Jazeera*, there is currently no official information regarding the cause of the accident. They only stated that the helicopter carrying the Iranian President was destroyed and burned.

According to the Iranian constitution, if the president dies, the vice president will assume the government. A new presidential election will then be held within 50 days.

"We assure that government services will continue with the tireless spirit of Supreme Leader Raisi," said an Iranian government representative, as reported by *Al Jazeera* (May 20, 2024).

Ebrahim Raisi served as President of Iran since August 2021. During his presidency, unemployment in Iran reportedly decreased.

According to data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in 2023 Iran's unemployment rate reached 9%, the lowest in two decades.

Previously, during the presidency of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (2005-2013), Iran's unemployment rate was in the range of 10-13%. Then, during the leadership of Hassan Rouhani (2014-2021), the unemployment trend began to fall below 10%, and continued to decrease during Ebrahim Raisi's era (2022-2023), as seen in the graph.

Despite this, President Ebrahim Raisi's regime was not without flaws.

For example, according to Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Iran remains one of the countries that most restricts press freedom.

By 2023, Iran's press freedom index score was only 24.81 out of 100, placing them 177th out of 180 countries.
