The Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) reports that the total estimated state losses from alleged corruption in the tin commodity trade within the PT Timah Tbk. Mining Business License (IUP) area in Bangka Belitung reach Rp271.06 trillion.
This estimated loss due to environmental damage caused by the tin corruption is based on calculations by Professor Bambang Hero Saharjo of the IPB Faculty of Forestry.
“If we combine forest and non-forest areas, the total loss due to damage that the state must also bear is Rp271,069,018,700,” said Bambang at a press conference at the Attorney General's Office, as reported by *Katadata*, Monday (19/2/2024).
He also mentioned that the calculation of environmental losses involved field verification and satellite observation from mid-2015 to 2022.
The following is a breakdown of the total environmental losses due to illegal tin mining in Bangka Belitung, according to Bambang:
Ecological Environmental Losses:
* Inside forest areas: Rp157.83 trillion
* Outside forest areas: Rp47.70 trillion
Economic Environmental Losses:
* Inside forest areas: Rp60.27 trillion
* Outside forest areas: Rp25.87 trillion
Environmental Remediation Costs:
* Inside forest areas: Rp5.26 trillion
* Outside forest areas: Rp6.62 trillion
In addition, investigators from the Attorney General's Office for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) have named Harvey Moeis, husband of actress Sandra Dewi, as a suspect in this tin corruption case.
“Around 2018-2019, Mr. HM contacted the President Director of PT Timah, Mr. MRPT alias RZ, to accommodate illegal mining activities in the PT Timah IUP area,” said Kuntadi, Director of Investigation at Jampidsus Kejagung, in a written statement, as reported by *Antara*, Wednesday (27/3/2024).
