The Indonesian government has allocated Rp 431 trillion for social protection in 2022.

In the 2022 State Budget (APBN), the government allocated Rp 431.5 trillion (approximately USD 29 billion based on current exchange rates, but the exact amount depends on the date of conversion) for social protection. This amount represents 15.9% of total government spending, a decrease of 11.54% from the 2021 outlook, which targeted Rp 487.8 trillion (approximately USD 33 billion).

Most of this year's social protection budget is allocated through central government spending via ministerial/institutional (K/L) and non-K/L expenditures.

The K/L budget is used for programs such as the Family Hope Program (PKH) for 10 million beneficiary families (KPM), the Sembako Card Program for 18.8 million KPM, the Indonesia Pintar Program (PIP) for 20.1 million students, the KIP College Program for 713,800 students, and National Health Insurance (JKN) contribution assistance (PIB) for 96.8 million people.

Meanwhile, the social protection budget through non-K/L spending is used for financing such as electricity subsidies for 37.9 million people, and subsidies for 3kg LPG cylinders totaling 8 million metric tons. Other programs include the Kartu Prakerja program, KUR interest rate subsidies, Job Loss Guarantee (JKP), and direct cash assistance (BLT) for 8 million rural families.

To support the acceleration of economic recovery and protection for the community, social protection policies are geared towards improving the Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS), which can be synergized with data from government social programs. Several social protection programs have been disbursed since the beginning of January 2022.
