Bali's tourism recovery is inseparable from the decline in Covid-19 transmission in the region. This has also resulted in an increase in hotel tax revenue on the Island of Gods.

Based on a report from the Ministry of Finance, hotel tax revenue in Bali reached Rp379.11 billion in February 2023. This realization soared by 280.81% compared to the same period the previous year (year-on-year/yoy), which amounted to Rp99.55 billion.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said the increase in hotel taxes was due to the recovery in the number of domestic and foreign tourists visiting Bali, resulting in a drastic increase in hotel occupancy rates.

"The performance of hotel taxes in Bali shows extraordinary improvement; this means it has recovered well, indicating that people have started to travel again," said Sri Mulyani in a press conference on the APBN KiTA, Tuesday (14/3/2023).

Besides Bali, hotel taxes also increased in the Nusa Tenggara region. For example, hotel tax revenue in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) reached Rp10.97 billion in February 2023, or up 9.02% year-on-year (yoy) from Rp10.07 billion in February 2022.

Furthermore, hotel tax revenue in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) increased by 22.7% (yoy), rising from Rp7.52 billion to Rp9.22 billion in February 2023.

"This means that the Bali and Nusa Tenggara regions, which were severely impacted during Covid-19, (hotel tax performance) show an extraordinarily significant improvement," said Sri Mulyani.

In total, national hotel tax collections in February 2023 reached Rp1.18 trillion. This figure jumped 46.1% from the realization in the same period the previous year (yoy).
