Indonesia's Annual Inflation Rate Rises to 1.59% in August 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded Indonesia's inflation rate at 1.59% year-on-year (yoy) with a consumer price index (CPI) of 106.57 in August 2021. The inflation rate last month was slightly higher than in July 2021, which was 1.52%. However, it was lower compared to August 2020, which was 1.32%.

The highest year-on-year inflation was experienced by the food, beverages, and tobacco expenditure group at 3.31%. This was followed by the food and beverage provision group at 2.55%, education at 2.26%, and health at 2.14%.

Other expenditure groups experiencing inflation were household furnishings, equipment, and routine maintenance at 1.99%, and clothing and footwear at 1.04%. Then, recreation, sports, and culture at 0.74%, personal care and other services at 0.62%, and transportation at 0.34%.

Meanwhile, only one expenditure group experienced year-on-year deflation. The information, communication, and financial services group recorded a deflation of 0.02%.

The monthly inflation rate in August 2021 was 0.03%. The year-to-date inflation rate reached 0.84% last month.
