Indonesia's Annual Inflation Reaches 4.94% in July 2022, Highest Since 2015

Based on a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's annual inflation rate in July 2022 reached 4.94% (year-on-year/yoy). This is the highest inflation rate since October 2015.

The BPS noted that inflation occurred due to price increases indicated by the rise in most expenditure group indices. The food, beverage, and tobacco group experienced the highest annual inflation, at 9.35% (yoy).

This was followed by the transportation group at 6.65% (yoy), the household goods and routine maintenance group at 4.91% (yoy), and personal care and other services at 4.79% (yoy).

Of the 11 expenditure groups, only the information, communication, and financial services group recorded deflation, at -0.27% (yoy).

The BPS also recorded several commodities that experienced price increases in July 2022, including red chilies, shallots, cayenne peppers, fresh fish, filtered kretek cigarettes, green chilies, instant noodles, white cigarettes, tomatoes, bottled water, household fuel, electricity tariffs, house rent, domestic helper wages, cars, airfare, and tutoring.

Meanwhile, commodities that experienced price decreases included cooking oil, green mustard greens, chicken eggs, water spinach, garlic, spinach, and gold jewelry.
