Basic Metal Industry Contributed the Largest Foreign Investment in the First Half of 2021

The Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) under the Ministry of Investment recorded US$3.48 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) realization from the basic metal industry, metal goods, non-machinery, and equipment sectors in 550 projects during the first half of 2021. This figure was the highest compared to other FDI sectors in the same period.

Transportation, warehousing, and telecommunications sectors ranked second, contributing US$1.7 billion in FDI realization across 559 projects from January to June 2021. FDI realization from the food industry amounted to US$1.5 billion across 1,216 projects.

Based on province, the highest foreign investment realization was in West Java, reaching US$3.03 billion from a total of 3,748 projects. Jakarta followed with US$1.97 billion in FDI from 5,493 projects. North Maluku recorded US$1.4 billion in FDI from 61 projects.

Furthermore, Singapore was the largest investor, with investments totaling US$4.7 billion across 5,226 projects. Hong Kong and China followed, investing US$2.3 billion and US$1.7 billion respectively.

Total FDI realization from January to June 2021 amounted to Rp 228.5 trillion. This represents 51.6% of the total investment realization of Rp 442.8 trillion in the first half of 2021.
