The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released data today, Monday (1/11), showing that inflation in October 2017 was 0.01 percent. This figure is lower than the previous month's 0.13 percent. Controlled commodity prices kept inflation relatively stable at the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2017. Calendar year inflation (January-October) 2017 reached 2.67 percent, and year-on-year (YoY) inflation was 3.58 percent.
Of the 82 cities monitored by BPS for price movements, 44 experienced inflation and 38 experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tual, at 1.05 percent, and the lowest in Surakarta and Cilegon, at 0.01 percent each. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Palu, reaching 1.31 percent, while the lowest was in Palopo at 0.01 percent.
The expenditure groups contributing to inflation were prepared meals, beverages, tobacco, and cigarettes (0.28 percent); followed by housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel (0.18 percent); clothing (0.18 percent); health (0.21 percent); and education, recreation, and sports (0.16 percent). Conversely, deflation was contributed by food (0.45 percent) and transport, communication, and financial services (0.13 percent).
