The launch of Instagram's Threads app has brought a "breath of fresh air" for Mark Zuckerberg. His wealth has returned him to the top 10 list of the world's richest people.
Previously, Zuckerberg had fallen out of the top 10 in 2022 due to a significant drop in his net worth throughout the year.
Data from Forbes Real Time Billionaire as of July 11, 2023, shows Zuckerberg's net worth reaching US$104.3 billion, or approximately Rp1,581.08 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp15,159/US$). This places the CEO of Meta Platforms Inc. at 7th place among the world's richest.
Forbes stated that over 100 million users had joined the Threads platform in less than five days since its release last Thursday (July 6, 2023).
On the first day of Threads' release, there were more than 30 million registrations, including from billionaires, pop stars, and politicians.
According to Forbes, Zuckerberg's net worth on January 1, 2023, was only US$43.8 billion. This means the Facebook CEO's wealth has increased by 138.12% year-to-date (YTD) as of today.
"Analyst optimism surrounding the launch of Threads also helped boost Zuckerberg's net worth, mostly in Meta shares, by US$1.2 billion this week," Forbes said, as quoted from its website on Sunday (July 9, 2023).
Despite the dramatic surge in his wealth, Zuckerberg still lags behind several other billionaires.
Elon Musk remains at the top of the list of the world's richest people. The Twitter CEO and Threads competitor has a net worth of US$242.7 billion.
Second place is occupied by the owner of the LVMH business empire, Bernard Arnault and family, with a net worth of US$224.1 billion. Third place is held by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, with a net worth of US$149.8 billion.
