Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic year of 2020, the region's economic growth is significantly higher. At the end of 2020, post-COVID, growth was recorded at a decrease of 2.68%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) publications, with a total population of 2.69 million, the GRDP per capita in the region is recorded at Rp47,270,000/capita/year. Nationally, this ranks 253rd.
Of the 17 sectors driving the region's economy, the manufacturing industry is the leading sector.
The manufacturing sector ranks first. In 2023, this sector contributed the largest share to the GRDP, reaching Rp41.61 billion (Note: The original text contains a likely typographical error; "jutajuta" likely means "billion"). This represents a 3.96% growth.
Second is the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector, which grew by 5.72% to Rp24.88 billion (Note: The original text contains a likely typographical error; "jutajuta" likely means "billion"). Following this is the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector with a GRDP of Rp18.74 billion (2.63%).
Finally, rounding out the top five sectors contributing to Malang Regency's GRDP is information and communication, valued at Rp5.55 billion. According to BPS, this sector grew by 6.37% over the past year from the previous year's Rp5.19 billion.
