Semarang Residents Spend Rp405.74 Per Capita Per Week on Cassava

The average expenditure of Semarang City residents on cassava in 2023 was Rp405.74 per capita per week. This figure is lower than the previous year's expenditure, which was recorded at Rp486.77 per capita per week.

Per capita expenditure is the cost incurred for the consumption of all household members over a month, divided by the number of household members. This expenditure can be categorized into two parts: food and non-food needs.

Expenditure on food consumption is calculated weekly, while non-food expenditure is calculated monthly and for the past 12 months. Both food and non-food consumption are then converted into average monthly expenditure. The average per capita consumption/expenditure figures presented in BPS publications are obtained by dividing the total consumption of all households (both consuming food and not) by the total population.

According to BPS, this decrease in expenditure is due to the monthly inflation rate (month to month) in this region, which reached 5.79%. Meanwhile, economic growth in 2023 was recorded at 5.79%.

The five largest expenditures of the population for tubers in Semarang City, from highest to lowest, are: potatoes at Rp737.04 per capita per week, cassava at Rp405.74 per capita per week, sweet potatoes at Rp237.06 per capita per week, taro at Rp29.67 per capita per week, and other tubers at Rp24.44 per capita per week.

According to a Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) publication, the average per capita expenditure in this city reached Rp1.96 million per capita per month in March 2023. This figure decreased by 0.79% compared to March 2022, which was Rp1.97 million per capita per month.

Based on region, the highest expenditure on cassava was in Pegunungan Bintang Regency and the lowest in Padang Panjang City. Semarang City's cassava expenditure ranks 333rd. Meanwhile, the national average per capita expenditure on cassava is Rp257.5 per capita per week.
