East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Governor Viktor Laiskodat has resigned from his position. This is because Viktor will run as a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) for the 2024-2029 period from the Nasdem Party.
“The resignation was submitted to fulfill the requirements for legislative candidates,” said Nasdem Deputy Chairman Ahmad Ali, as quoted from *Katadata.co.id*, Friday (23/6/2023).
According to Ali, Viktor has declared his candidacy as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the 2024-2029 period. The letter of resignation submitted by Viktor is one of the requirements if a regional head wants to run in the legislative election.
However, Ali said Viktor will continue to carry out his duties until September 2023. Moreover, he continued, Viktor is not yet listed in the permanent list of legislative candidates (DCT).
“When he (Viktor) is elected, he will automatically resign. Mr. Viktor will complete his duties before the General Election. So, by September 2023, meaning before the election stages begin, he will have resigned,” said Ali.
Viktor has served as the Governor of NTT since 2018. He has been in the spotlight for issuing policies considered controversial. One example is his policy setting the start time for Senior High Schools (SMA) at 5:00 AM WITA.
