Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD) are one of the pillars of the Indonesian economy and contribute significantly to the Regional Original Income (PAD) of Provincial Governments (Pemprov) and Regency/City Governments (Pemkab/Pemkot).
According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), in 2021 there were 829 BUMDs throughout Indonesia. 114 BUMDs were owned by Provincial Governments and 715 BUMDs were owned by Regency/City Governments.
The total assets of all these BUMDs reached Rp920 trillion with equity valued at Rp221.27 trillion at the end of 2021. The total profit of all BUMDs reached Rp13.34 trillion.
According to BPS data, most BUMDs operate in the water, electricity, and gas sectors. This is followed by the financial activities sector and the wholesale and retail trade sector.

9. Agriculture: 15 companies
10. Gas & Electricity Supply: 11 companies
11. Accommodation, Information & Communication Provision: 9 companies
12. Corporate Services: 6 companies
13. Construction: 5 companies
14. Health Services and Social Activities: 2 companies
