Most MSMEs Adapted Products and Business Techniques to Survive During PPKM

Quoting the 2021 Current Situation Report on MSMEs by Mandiri Institute, the majority of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) changed their product types and business methods to survive during the PPKM. 85.57% of respondents admitted to doing so during the Emergency PPKM in July-August 2021.

The next strategy was to cut operational costs, implemented by 58.99% of respondents. Furthermore, offering discounts and bonuses was done by 24.68% of respondents.

Then, 3.86% of respondents actually expanded their businesses during the PPKM. Meanwhile, 2.97% of respondents had no specific strategy, and 2.49% had to stop operating or close physical locations to focus on online sales. Only 0.53% sought additional capital.

In general, the same survey found that 94.7% of businesses had to halt operations for more than a week during the Emergency PPKM in July-August 2021. The majority of businesses (35.47%) even had to stop operating for 2-4 months.

Mandiri Institute conducted this survey on the impact of the emergency PPKM on 2,944 respondents. The survey was conducted in December 2021, with the majority of respondents from Java and Sumatra.
