Indonesia's Annual Inflation Eases in May 2024

According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia experienced a 2.84% year-on-year (yoy) inflation rate in May 2024, easing from the previous month.

Commodities that significantly contributed to the annual inflation or price increase in May 2024 were rice, shallots, garlic, broiler chicken, tomatoes, chili peppers, red chilies, and scallions.

The annual inflation rate in May 2024 was also influenced by price increases in instant coffee, granulated sugar, cigarettes, house contracts, house rent, domestic helper wages, airfare, rice with side dishes, oily cookies, and gold jewelry.

Meanwhile, commodities that contributed to deflation or a year-on-year price decrease in May 2024 were fresh fish, pears, household fuel, liquid/dish soap, gasoline, and mobile phones.

By expenditure group, the highest annual inflation in May 2024 occurred in the food, beverages, and tobacco group.
