The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Deposited Rp 171 Billion into State Treasury in the First Half of 2021

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deposited Rp 171 billion into the state treasury during the first half of 2021. This money is a follow-up to court decisions in an effort to recover state assets (asset recovery).

The returned funds include Rp 85.67 billion from the determination of usage and grant status. Funds from the seizure of corruption proceeds, money laundering (TPPU), and replacement money decided or determined by the court amounted to Rp 73.72 billion. Furthermore, Rp 11.84 billion originated from fines and proceeds from the auction of corruption and TPPU assets.

During January-June 2021, the KPK handled 77 cases at the investigation stage. The anti-corruption commission also conducted 35 investigations, 53 prosecutions, and 35 executions of corruption crime (tipikor) cases during the same period.

Furthermore, the KPK designated 32 individuals as suspects in the first half of 2021. This number comes from 35 investigation orders (sprindik) issued by the KPK.

One case that attracted public attention in the first half of 2021 involved corruption in the sales and marketing activities of PT Dirgantara Indonesia (DI) (Persero). Another was the bribery case related to lobster seed (benur) export permits involving former Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo.

There was also a bribery case related to the procurement of Covid-19 social assistance (bansos) involving former Social Minister Juliari Batubara. And finally, the infrastructure development case in South Sulawesi involving the (non-active) Governor of South Sulawesi, Nurdin Abdullah.
