Jokowi's Second Term Needs US$412 Million for Infrastructure

President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi's) administration has targeted an ambitious infrastructure development plan worth US$412 billion, or approximately Rp5,768 trillion, for the 2019-2024 period. This project aims to stimulate economic growth in Southeast Asia's largest economy. Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, in an interview with Bloomberg, explained that 40% of the project's funding will come from the government, 25% from state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and the remaining 35% from the private sector.

The infrastructure project allocation is planned as follows: 60% for transportation, 17% for energy, 10% for irrigation, 5% for water supply and sanitation, and 8% for information and communication. This allocation aims to expand access and ensure the equitable distribution of Indonesia's resources and wealth beyond Java. Bambang mentioned that some projects within the infrastructure development plan include the construction of roads, airports, and other facilities in remote areas, such as Papua, to improve connectivity.
