Number of Judges Arrested for Corruption, 2010-2022

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation (OTT) against Supreme Court Justice Sudrajad Dimyati on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

During the operation, the KPK secured approximately Rp2.2 billion in cash, consisting of 205,000 Singapore dollars (approximately Rp2.17 billion at an exchange rate of Rp10,600 per Singapore dollar) and Rp50 million in Indonesian Rupiah.

This arrest stems from allegations that Supreme Court Justice Sudrajad Dimyati was involved in a bribery case related to case management at the Supreme Court (MA).

In addition to Sudrajad, the KPK also arrested nine other individuals allegedly involved: Elly Tri Pangestu, a Justice/Substitute Registrar at the Supreme Court; Desy Yustria, a civil servant at the Supreme Court Registry; Muhajir Habibie, a civil servant at the Supreme Court Registry; Redi, a Supreme Court civil servant; and Albasri, a Supreme Court civil servant.

Furthermore, Yosep Parera and Eko Suparno, both lawyers, and Heryanto Tanaka and Ivan Dwi Kusuma Sujanto, private individuals and debtors of the Intidana Savings and Loan Cooperative, were also arrested.

This corruption issue affecting the judiciary is not unprecedented. According to KPK data, from 2010 to 2022, 21 judges have been arrested for corruption.

As shown in the graph, since 2010, there have been arrests of corrupt judges almost every year. This indicates the ongoing existence of legal mafia practices within the judiciary.

In response, President Joko Widodo stated that he has instructed Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD to reform the legal sector.

"I see a very urgent need for reform in our legal field," Jokowi said, as reported by *Katadata.co.id* on Monday, September 26, 2022.
