Indonesia's Monthly Inflation Reaches Pandemic High of 0.57% in December 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that Indonesia experienced inflation of 0.57% with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 107.66 in December 2021. This is the highest inflation in Indonesia since May 2019, when inflation was recorded at 0.68%.

Inflation occurred due to the increase in most expenditure group indices. The largest increase occurred in the food, beverages, and tobacco group, at 1.61%.

Other expenditure increases occurred in the transportation group (0.62%), personal care and other services (0.25%), food and beverage services/restaurants (0.24%), and clothing and footwear (0.22%).

Only one expenditure group experienced a decrease, namely the information, communication, and financial services group (-0.10%). Meanwhile, the education group showed no change.

Of the 90 cities, 88 experienced inflation. The highest inflation was in Jayapura at 1.91% with a CPI of 105.87. The lowest inflation occurred in Pekanbaru at 0.07% with a CPI of 106.53.

The two cities that experienced deflation were Dumai and Bukittinggi. Dumai recorded deflation of -0.13% with a CPI of 107.7, and Bukittinggi recorded deflation of -0.04% with a CPI of 106.59.
