Padang's Economy, the Largest in West Sumatra, in 2020

Padang City is the largest contributor to the economy of West Sumatra Province. The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded the city's economy, based on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices (ADHB), at Rp 62.22 trillion in 2020. This figure is equivalent to 25.7% of the total GRDP of the 19 regencies/cities in West Sumatra, which reached Rp 241.88 trillion.

Padang City's largest economy is supported by the wholesale and retail trade, as well as transportation and warehousing sectors. The GRDP of the wholesale and retail trade sector contributed Rp 10.21 trillion or 16.41%, while the transportation and warehousing sector contributed Rp 9.74 trillion or 15.66% of the total economy last year.

Agam Regency is second with a GRDP at current prices (ADHB) of Rp 20.37 trillion, followed by Padang Pariaman Regency with a GRDP at current prices (ADHB) of Rp 17.94 trillion.

Padang Panjang City is the regency/city with the smallest GRDP at current prices (ADHB), namely only Rp 3.47 trillion. Above it is Sawahlunto City with a GRDP at current prices (ADHB) of Rp 3.66 trillion and Solok City with an economy of Rp 4.04 trillion.

Bukit Tinggi City is recorded as the regency/city with the highest GRDP per capita, namely Rp 65 million last year. This is followed by Padang City with a GRDP per capita of Rp 64.67 million and Padang Panjang City with a GRDP per capita of Rp 63.82 million.

Pesisir Selatan is recorded as the regency/city with the lowest GRDP per capita in West Sumatra, namely only Rp 29.96 million. Above it is Pasaman Regency with a GRDP per capita of Rp 31.32 million and Solok Selatan Regency with a GRDP per capita of Rp 31.81 million.
