Many Indonesians doubt the Free Nutritional Meal Program is free from corruption

According to the Indikator survey, most Indonesians doubt that the free nutritious meal program (MBG) is free from corruption.

Of the 1,220 people surveyed, 45.6% are not very confident and 16.1% don't believe at all that the program is free from corruption.

Meanwhile, only 2.9% strongly believe that the MBG is free from corruption, and 30.9% are somewhat confident.

"The majority of citizens are not very confident or don't believe at all that the implementation of the MBG program is free from corrupt practices," Indikator said in its report.

"This should be a critical note. The very high public distrust has so far been tolerated due to the highly populist nature of the program. The program should continue to be evaluated so that it can be improved. Otherwise, the impact on political stability could be very significant," they said.

Indikator conducted this survey from January 15-21, 2026, on 1,220 people aged 17 and above or who are married.

The respondents were distributed across all Indonesian provinces proportionally and were interviewed face-to-face by trained interviewers.
