Hit by Disaster, Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra Record Deflation in November 2025

At the end of November 2025, flood and landslide disasters struck dozens of regencies/cities spread across three provinces on Sumatra Island, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), these three provinces experienced monthly deflation in November 2025.

Aceh recorded deflation or a price decrease of 0.67% month-to-month (mtm). This was the deepest deflation nationally.

North Sumatra experienced deflation of 0.42% (mtm), and West Sumatra 0.24% (mtm).

However, according to Pudji Ismartini, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, the impact of the disaster on commodity prices in these three provinces has not yet been reflected in the November 2025 inflation release.

"The disaster that occurred in these three regions happened in the middle of the fourth week of November. So its impact did not occur this month," said Pudji during a press conference on Monday (December 1, 2025).

Pudji stated that the impact of the disaster, such as disruptions to logistics distribution and damage to market infrastructure, is projected to only become visible in the December 2025 inflation data release.

Overall, Indonesia experienced monthly inflation of 0.17% (mtm) in November 2025.

In that month, monthly inflation occurred in 28 provinces, while 10 other provinces experienced monthly deflation.
