ASEAN Manufacturing Business September 2025, Indonesia Lags Behind 3 Countries

The S&P Global report reveals the latest developments in the manufacturing business in Southeast Asian countries or the ASEAN group, as measured by the Purchasing Managers Index (PMI).

Significant growth was experienced by Singapore, Thailand, and Myanmar, which ranked in the top three positions.

Singapore saw a fairly significant increase, from 51.2 points in August 2025 to 56.4 points in September 2025. S&P Global stated that new orders and business activity in Singapore expanded at a historically high rate, while business confidence also improved.

Similarly, Thailand, in second place, recorded 54.6 points in September 2025, up from 52.7 in August 2025. Meanwhile, Myanmar secured a PMI of 53.1 points in September 2025, an increase from 50.4 points in the previous month.

Indonesia was in fourth place with a weakening condition, reaching 50.4 points in September 2025. This score for Indonesia was the same as that recorded by Vietnam.

• Singapore: 56.4 points

• Thailand: 54.6 points

• Myanmar: 53.1 points

• Indonesia: 50.4 points

• Vietnam: 50.4 points

• Philippines: 49.9 points

• Malaysia: 49.8 points

• ASEAN: 51.6 points.

S&P stated that the ASEAN manufacturing sector as a whole showed further progress, with solid expansion in output and stronger increases in new orders and purchasing activity.

The ASEAN score was recorded at 51.6 points, a slight increase from 51 points in August 2025.

"More positively, companies resumed hiring, ending six consecutive months of employee reductions," S&P Global wrote in its release, quoted on Wednesday (8/10/2025).

Companies also reported new pressures on production capacity, as backlogs increased for the first time since March, and at the fastest pace in the last year.
