Indonesia's SDG Index Strengthened in 2024

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the United Nations (UN) agenda to promote societal well-being through development in social, economic, environmental, and governance sectors.

As a UN member state, Indonesia has adopted this agenda since 2015.

Generally, the SDGs comprise 169 targets summarized into 17 major goals, all of which are expected to be achieved by 2030.

The 17 major SDG goals are:

• No Poverty;

• Zero Hunger;

• Good Health and Well-being;

• Quality Education;

• Gender Equality;

• Clean Water and Sanitation;

• Affordable and Clean Energy;

• Decent Work and Economic Growth;

• Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure;

• Reduced Inequalities;

• Sustainable Cities and Communities;

• Responsible Consumption and Production;

• Climate Action;

• Life Below Water;

• Life on Land;

• Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions; and

• Partnerships for the Goals. 

According to the Sustainable Development Report 2025, Indonesia's SDG index has continuously strengthened over the last decade.

In 2015, Indonesia's SDG index was only 65.1 out of a scale of 100. This meant that, at the time, Indonesia was assessed to have achieved only 65.1% of all SDG targets.

After that, the index gradually rose, reaching 70.22 in 2024. This figure indicates that Indonesia has met 70.22% of the SDG targets.

Despite the positive trend, Indonesia's SDG index in 2024 still lags behind many countries, ranking 77th out of 167 countries surveyed.

As of 2024, Indonesia is still considered to face significant challenges in the sectors of hunger eradication, health and well-being development, innovation, industry, infrastructure, environment, as well as issues of corruption and press freedom.
