Five major American companies have committed to investing in Indonesia. These investments span several sectors, including clean energy, digital technology, and healthcare.
According to Katadata, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the US is Indonesia's main trading partner, as evidenced by its 11.2% share of Indonesian exports.
"In terms of investment, the US is also among the top five investors in 2024, with a value reaching US$3.7 billion," said Airlangga at a joint Indonesia-US press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (July 24th).
Based on value, the largest planned investment is from ExxonMobil. Airlangga stated that the global energy and chemical manufacturing company is currently discussing the construction of a carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility worth US$10 billion.
Second is Oracle, which is discussing investing in Indonesia by building a data center in Batam worth US$6 billion.
Amazon follows in third place, planning to strengthen AI and cloud development with an investment of US$5 billion. Fourth is Microsoft, which will build cloud and AI infrastructure worth US$1.7 billion.
Finally, General Electric (GE), through GE Healthcare, will build Indonesia's first CT scanner production facility this year, worth Rp178 billion (approximately US$10.87 million).
The total investment commitment from these US companies to Indonesia reaches approximately Rp370.19 trillion when converted using an exchange rate of Rp16,300 per US dollar. This value reflects the planned expansion of several large US companies in various strategic sectors.
With these investments, Airlangga hopes to maintain internal and external balance. "This is to ensure a balanced trade balance, and to guarantee economic momentum and job creation," said Airlangga.
