Residents of South Jakarta (Jaksel) spent the most on their needs, including food and non-food items. This is evident from the Jakarta Provincial Statistics Agency (BPS DKI Jakarta) report, Consumption Patterns of the Population of DKI Jakarta Province 2024.
BPS DKI Jakarta reported that each person in the city had an average expenditure of Rp3.27 million per month. This figure surged 19.35% from the average expenditure in 2023, which was Rp2.74 million per capita per month.
The average expenditure of Jaksel residents also exceeded the DKI Jakarta average of Rp2.79 million and the national average of Rp1.5 million per capita per month.
The next administrative city with the highest expenditure was North Jakarta, at Rp3.04 million per person per month. This average decreased slightly by 4.29% from 2023, which reached Rp3.18 million.
Then there's West Jakarta, at Rp2.73 million in 2024. This average value decreased significantly by 8.9% from 2023, which reached Rp3 million per capita per month.
Outside the top three, spending was less than Rp2.5 million. Here are the complete figures for the average expenditure per person per month in the six cities of DKI Jakarta in 2024:
- South Jakarta Rp3,274,714
- North Jakarta Rp3,045,738
- West Jakarta Rp2,738,942
- Central Jakarta Rp2,443,794
- East Jakarta Rp2,430,017
- Thousand Islands Rp1,415,690
BPS DKI Jakarta explained that the overall increase in expenditure in DKI Jakarta was not very significant, only 0.09% from 2023. However, BPS DKI Jakarta believes that there is still a growth trend in household spending in this densely populated province.
BPS DKI Jakarta assessed that the growth was due to several factors such as inflation, increased purchasing power, shifts in consumption patterns, increased household needs, and the impact of social protection programs implemented by the government in the form of social assistance and subsidies.
"This can help increase per capita expenditure for more vulnerable groups," wrote BPS DKI Jakarta in its report.
