Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of micro-scale industrial companies in Indonesia increased during the 2013-2023 period.

Meanwhile, the number of small-scale industrial companies showed a fluctuating trend, generally declining.

BPS defines micro industries as manufacturing businesses with 1-4 employees, while small industries employ 5-19 people.

In 2013, there were 2.89 million micro-scale industrial companies in Indonesia. This number increased to 4.13 million units in 2019.

In 2020, the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of micro-scale industries decreased temporarily before recovering to reach 4.18 million units in 2023.

On the other hand, the number of small-scale industrial companies decreased from 531,000 units in 2013 to 319,000 units in 2023.
