The Number of Special High-Ranking Officers in the Indonesian Army Exceeds That of the Navy and Air Force.

According to data in the journal *Digital Competence and Human Resource Management of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) in the Era of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution*, there were 466 special high-ranking officers (pati) in the TNI throughout 2023.

The writing team, consisting of Chandra Ariyadi Prakosa, Mhd. Halkis, and Tarsisius Susilo, then categorized this number based on branch and quarterly count. These branches include the Indonesian Army (TNI Angkatan Darat/AD), the Indonesian Navy (TNI Angkatan Laut/AL), and the Indonesian Air Force (TNI Angkatan Udara/AU).

In the first quarter of 2023, the number of special pati in the TNI AD was recorded at 33 personnel. Meanwhile, the TNI AL had 19 and the TNI AU had 18.

The following quarter saw a significant increase in the TNI AD, reaching 62 special pati. "Meanwhile, the TNI AL and TNI AU each increased to 29 and 31," the authors wrote, as quoted on Tuesday (March 25, 2025).

Then, in the third quarter of 2023, the number of special pati in the TNI AD rose again to 67 personnel. The TNI AL remained at 29, and the TNI AU decreased to 30.

The peak occurred in the fourth quarter of 2023. Special pati in the TNI AD soared to 74, while the TNI AL and TNI AU each recorded 37 special pati.

The addition of special pati in the final quarter of 2023 serves as a warning. In total, the combined number of special pati increased by 17.46%, reaching 148 in the final quarter of 2023.

"This warning highlights the impact of 'uncontrolled growth in the number of pati,' indicating a serious risk if this growth trend is not managed properly," the authors wrote.
