Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company measure the digital economy value in Southeast Asian countries based on gross merchandise value (GMV), which is the value of goods/services sold within a specific period.

In 2024, the GMV of Indonesia's e-commerce sector is projected to reach US$65 billion.

Meanwhile, the e-commerce GMV of Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore is smaller, as shown in the graph.

However, Indonesia's e-commerce growth rate lags behind its neighboring countries.

The highest growth is in the Philippines, where its e-commerce GMV in 2024 grew by 23% year-on-year (YoY).

Then, Thailand's e-commerce GMV in 2024 grew by 19% (YoY), Vietnam by 18% (YoY), Malaysia by 17% (YoY), Singapore by 12% (YoY), and Indonesia by 11% (YoY).

According to Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company, digital economic growth is more influenced by consumption levels.
