The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's year-on-year (yoy) inflation reached 2.12% in August 2024.
However, month-to-month (mtm), there was a deflation of 0.03% in August 2024 compared to July 2023. August 2024's year-on-year inflation was also lower than August 2023's 3.27% (yoy).
Year-to-date (ytd), BPS recorded inflation of 0.87% in August 2024 compared to December 2023.
The core inflation rate for August 2024 was 2.02% (yoy), 0.20% (mtm), and 1.52% (ytd).
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) was recorded at 106.06. The highest inflation was in Papua Pegunungan Province at 5.05% (yoy) with a CPI of 110.78, while the lowest was in Bangka Belitung Islands Province at 1.02% (yoy) with a CPI of 103.78.
The highest inflation at the regency/city level was in Minahasa Selatan Regency at 7.75% (yoy) with a CPI of 108.61, and the lowest was in Bangka Barat Regency at 0.11% (yoy) with a CPI of 101.11.
Meanwhile, deflation at the regency/city level occurred in Timor Tengah Selatan Regency at 0.88% (yoy) with a CPI of 103.99.
Year-on-year inflation occurred due to price increases indicated by the increase in most expenditure group indices, namely:
* Food, beverages, and tobacco: 3.39%;
* Clothing and footwear: 1.19%;
* Housing, water, electricity, and household fuel: 0.57%;
* Household furnishings, equipment, and routine maintenance: 1.05%;
* Health: 1.72%;
* Transportation: 1.42%;
* Recreation, sports, and culture: 1.52%;
* Education: 1.83%;
* Food and beverage services/restaurants: 2.24%;
* Personal care and other services: 6.04%.
Meanwhile, the expenditure group that experienced a decrease in the index was the information, communication, and financial services group at -0.16%.
