The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) of the Ministry of Finance announced that 12.7 million taxpayers have filed their Annual Tax Returns (SPT) for Income Tax by the end of March 2024.

"As of 11:50 WIB on March 31, 12,697,754 SPTs have been submitted," said DJP Director of Outreach, Services, and Public Relations Dwi Astuti, as reported by Antara on Monday (1/4/2024).

Dwi stated that this number is equivalent to 65.88% of the total number of taxpayers required to file SPTs. This represents a 4.92% increase compared to the same period last year.

Specifically, the number of individual taxpayers who have filed their SPTs is recorded at 12,349,437, while the number of corporate taxpayers reaches 348,317.

According to Dwi, the majority of taxpayers filed their Annual SPTs through e-filling, totaling 10,897,233. Meanwhile, those who filed through e-form numbered 1,407,493 taxpayers, e-SPT 16 taxpayers, and manual filing 393,012 taxpayers.

"Many still file manually because this figure represents the entire Indonesia. It's not possible that everyone is already familiar with e-filling," said Dwi.

She continued, stating that there are no audits conducted on taxpayers with an overpaid Annual SPT status using the average effective tax rate (TER) scheme.

"If there is an overpayment, it is directly returned by the tax withholding agent or employer. So, the SPT status remains nil, so there is no audit," she said.

The TER scheme is designed to simplify the calculation of Article 21 Income Tax (PPh).

During the January-November tax period, the TER tax scheme uses the calculation of gross income multiplied by the percentage rate according to the monthly TER table set by the DJP.

Then, the calculation for the December tax period uses the method stipulated in Article 17 of the PPh Law.
