Manufacturing Industry Was the Biggest Contributor to Indonesia's Economy in 2021

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that Indonesia's total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices in 2021 reached Rp16.97 quadrillion. The largest contributing sector to the national GDP in 2021 was the manufacturing industry, with a total value of Rp3.27 quadrillion (19.25%).

Other major contributing sectors were agriculture with a total value of Rp2.25 quadrillion (13.28%), followed by wholesale and retail trade at Rp2.2 quadrillion (12.97%), and construction at Rp1.77 quadrillion (10.44%).

Throughout 2021, the mining and quarrying sector contributed Rp1.52 quadrillion (8.98%), the information and communication sector Rp748.75 trillion (4.41%), financial and insurance services Rp736.19 trillion (4.34%), and transportation and warehousing Rp719.63 trillion (4.24%).

Following these, the sectors with the smallest contribution to national GDP were water supply and waste management at Rp2.02 trillion (0.07%), electricity and gas at Rp190.05 trillion (1.12%), and health and social activities at Rp226.97 trillion (1.34%).

Manufacturing Sector Contribution Decreases, Mining Increases

Despite being the largest contributing sector, the manufacturing industry's contribution showed a decrease compared to the previous year.

In 2020, the manufacturing industry's contribution to national GDP reached 19.87%, while in 2021 it decreased to 19.25%.

The sector that experienced an increase in contribution was mining and quarrying. In 2020, this sector contributed only around 6.44% to national GDP. However, in 2021, its percentage increased to 8.98%.
