Denmark and New Zealand Ranked as the Least Corrupt Countries in 2020

Denmark and New Zealand were the cleanest countries from corruption practices in the world throughout 2020. This is based on the 2020 Corruption Perception Index report compiled by the global corruption monitoring agency, Transparency International.

Denmark and New Zealand obtained the highest Corruption Perception Index (CPI) score out of 180 countries in the world in 2020. Both countries received the same CPI score of 88 out of 100 points. Finland, Singapore, Sweden, and Switzerland followed with a CPI score of 85 points. Meanwhile, Indonesia ranked 102nd with a score of 37.

For information, a CPI score close to 0 indicates that the level of corruption in a country is very high. Conversely, a CPI score close to 100 indicates that a country is increasingly clean from corruption.

Transparency International placed Denmark as the cleanest country from corruption because the country applies zero tolerance for corruption in various government institutions. One manifestation of this is by placing institutions like the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in every government institution.

These KPK-like institutions provide 24-hour hotlines. This allows the public to participate in reporting any suspected corruption in those government institutions.
