Transportation Spending Group Records Highest Inflation in October 2022

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the transportation expenditure group recorded inflation of 16.03% in October 2022 compared to October 2021 (year on year/yoy).

This figure is above the overall inflation of 5.71% (yoy). It is also the highest compared to the other 10 expenditure groups.

The government's policy of raising fuel prices (BBM) in early September 2022 triggered high inflation in the transportation group, exceeding 16% (yoy).

Other expenditure groups recording the highest inflation were food, beverages, and tobacco at 6.76% (yoy), followed by personal care and other services at 5.41% (yoy), household equipment, and routine maintenance at 5.08% (yoy), and food and beverage/restaurant services at 4.72% (yoy).

Next, housing, water, electricity, and household fuel experienced inflation of 3.3% (yoy), recreation, sports, and culture at 2.85% (yoy), education at 2.74% (yoy), health at 2.7% (yoy), and clothing and footwear at 1.5% (yoy).

Meanwhile, the information, communication, and financial services group experienced deflation of 0.42% (yoy) in October 2022.
