Gasoline and Chicken Eggs Contributed to Rising Inflation in February 2023

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded inflation in February 2023 at 5.47% year-on-year (yoy). This figure is up from 5.28% in January 2023.

Of the 90 cities, the highest inflation occurred in Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, at 7.88%. Meanwhile, the lowest inflation was felt in Waingapu, East Sumba, at 3.57%.

Several expenditure groups contributed to February 2023's inflation. Food, beverages, and tobacco contributed 1.87% to national inflation. Transportation contributed 1.63%.

Housing, water, electricity, and household fuel contributed 0.68%. Food and beverage services or restaurants contributed 0.36%. Personal care and other services contributed 0.35%.

Household goods and maintenance contributed 0.24%. Education contributed 0.16%.

Groups with a small contribution to inflation include clothing and footwear at 0.06%, recreation, sports, and culture at 0.05%, and health at 0.08%.

Meanwhile, the deflationary group was information, communication, and financial services, which contributed -0.01%.

From these groups, BPS specifically traced the commodities causing February 2023's inflation.

First was gasoline, contributing 1.07%. Second was rice at 0.32%. Third was household fuel at 0.22%.

Fourth was filter kretek cigarettes at 0.2%. Fifth, airfare also contributed 0.17% to inflation. Finally, chicken eggs contributed 0.15%.
