The United States leads as the country with the world's largest economy. According to data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the US economy, measured by Gross Domestic Product (GDP), reached US$22.9 trillion in 2021.

This figure represents 25% of the world economy. The United States has held the top economic position since 1960, even long before World Wars I and II. Because of this, the United States is known as an economic superpower.

China, a competitor to the United States, holds the second-largest economy in the world. Up to 2021, China's GDP was recorded at US$16.9 trillion, contributing 16.9% to the world economy.

Japan and Germany follow, with GDPs of US$5.1 trillion (5.4%) and US$4.2 trillion (4.5%) respectively. The United Kingdom is next with a GDP of US$3.1 trillion (3.3%).
