Cigarettes and Tobacco Contribute to the Second Highest Inflation in Jakarta

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), cigarettes, tobacco, beverages, and food contributed 3.29% to inflation in DKI Jakarta during the December 2018-June 2019 period. This contribution from cigarettes, tobacco, beverages, and food was the second highest after food, which reached 5.22%. Meanwhile, the transportation, communication, and financial services expenditure group experienced deflation of 0.41%.

In June 2019, DKI Jakarta experienced inflation of 0.47%, lower than national inflation, which was 0.55%. In line with the momentum of Ramadan and Idul Fitri, the largest contributor to inflation was in the clothing group at 1.43%. The food group and the cigarettes, tobacco, beverages, and food group followed with inflation contributions of 1.3% and 1.15%, respectively.
