Jakarta's Food Inflation Reaches 5.84% (YoY) in June 2022

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Jakarta's consumer price index (CPI) for food rose 1.33% to 116.46 in June 2022 compared to the previous month (month-to-month/m-to-m). This is the highest level since January 2020, as shown in [insert chart/graph here].

Compared to June 2021, food inflation in the capital city reached 5.84% (year-on-year/yoy). Similarly, compared to December 2021, food prices in Jakarta increased by 4.31% (year-to-date/ytd).

Fluctuating prices of food commodities such as chicken eggs, chicken meat, chilies, garlic, shallots, cooking oil, and others have driven up food inflation in Jakarta throughout this year.

In several regions, annual (yoy) food inflation has even reached double digits. These include:

1. Bungo: 19.29%
2. Bukittinggi City: 17.06%
3. Sintang: 16.97%
4. Pekanbaru City: 15.98%
5. Singaraja: 15.77%
6. Jambi City: 15.28%
7. Metro City: 14.65%
8. Padang City: 13.61%
9. Bandar Lampung City: 13.39%
10. Padangsidimpuan City: 13.10%

The threat of food inflation is also affecting the world. This is reflected in the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Food Price Index, which stood at 157.4 in May 2022. This figure is up 22.85% compared to May 2021 (yoy). The global food price index has also increased by 17.73% compared to December 2021 (ytd).
