Indonesia's Ministry of Finance: 2021 State Budget Deficit Reaches Rp 783.7 Trillion

A report from the Indonesian Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) shows that the state budget deficit (Anggaran Pendapatan dan Belanja Negara or APBN) reached Rp 783.7 trillion in 2021. This is equivalent to 4.65% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The 2021 APBN deficit decreased by 17.3% compared to the same period the previous year. In 2020, the APBN deficit was recorded at Rp 947.7 trillion.

This deficit was caused by lower state revenue realization compared to state expenditure. Specifically, state revenue realization reached Rp 2,003.1 trillion by December. Meanwhile, state expenditure was recorded at Rp 2,786.8 trillion throughout 2021.

Despite this, state revenue realization grew by 21.6% compared to the previous year, which was Rp 1,647.8 trillion. This includes tax revenue of Rp 1,277.5 trillion, customs and excise revenue of Rp 269 trillion, and non-tax state revenue (PNBP) of Rp 452 trillion.

Meanwhile, state expenditure realization grew by 7.4% compared to the previous year's Rp 2,595.5 trillion. This includes central government expenditure of Rp 2,001.1 trillion and transfers to regions and village funds (TKDD) of Rp 785.7 trillion.

The primary balance showed a deficit of Rp 440.2 trillion by December 2021. This figure is 30.5% lower than the previous year's deficit of Rp 633.6 trillion.
