Forbes has released its list of the 10 richest people in the world as of December 1, 2023. Elon Musk remains at the top.
According to Forbes, Tesla's stock price increase of almost 17% throughout November 2023 added US$28 billion to Elon Musk's wealth, bringing his total to US$245 billion.
The CEO and creator of the electric car company Tesla also holds shares in the private rocket company SpaceX, and the social media company X, formerly known as Twitter.
Bernard Arnault ranks second. This French luxury goods magnate had a net worth of approximately US$191 billion at the beginning of December 2023. At the beginning of November 2023, his net worth was US$178 billion.
Previously, Arnault held the top spot for the first five months of the year.
However, since June 8, 2023, Musk has overtaken Arnault. Arnault owns a fashion empire with around 70 brands, including Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Tiffany & Co., and Sephora.
Jeff Bezos holds the third position, with a net worth of US$168.4 billion. The former CEO and founder of Amazon.
Oracle software billionaire Larry Ellison is ranked fourth with US$146 billion.
Larry Ellison's wealth increased by US$15.6 billion throughout November 2023 thanks to Oracle's stock rising almost 10%.
Other figures on the list of the world's richest people at the beginning of December 2023 include Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
These three tech founders saw increases in their wealth due to the rise in their companies' stock prices.
According to Forbes, many billionaires hold a significant portion of their net worth in their company's stock. Therefore, when the stock price fluctuates, their wealth fluctuates as well.
Overall, the 10 richest people in the world had a combined net worth of US$1.44 trillion on December 1, 2023, up from US$1.32 trillion the previous month.
