Indonesia's Corruption Perception Improves in the Public Eye

Indonesia's Corruption Perception Index (CPI) score rose by two points in 2015, improving on the previous year's score of 34. This score is higher than that of the Philippines, Vietnam, and Myanmar within ASEAN. Globally, Indonesia's CPI ranks 88th, still lower than Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

In its CPI publication, Transparency International (TI) attributes this increase in the index to improved perceptions regarding the misuse of authority for personal gain, in both the public, governmental, and political sectors.

This improvement is partly evident in President Joko Widodo's commitment, demonstrated by signing Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 7/2015 on Actions for Corruption Prevention and Eradication (Aksi PPK). In 2016, seven key sectors are the focus of Aksi PPK: State Revenue, Food Trade, Procurement of Goods and Services, Infrastructure, Natural Resources (Extractive Industries), the Private Sector, and State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Governance.
