How much has Sweden invested in Indonesia?

Swedish foreign direct investment (FDI) realization in Indonesia during the first quarter of 2017 reached US$8.69 million. This figure surged more than 13 times compared to the same quarter of the previous year, which was only US$0.65 million. The amount also increased by more than 93 percent compared to the realization throughout 2016, which was US$4.5 million.

Data from the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) recorded that the highest previous value of Swedish investment in Indonesia occurred in 2012, reaching more than US$5 million. The following year it plummeted to only US$0.6 million. The value of Swedish investment in Indonesia in 2016 ranked 41st on the list of countries with the largest investments in Indonesia.

The visit of His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, accompanied by 35 leaders of Swedish companies, to Indonesia can be a moment to enhance cooperation between the two countries. As is known, up to the first quarter of 2017, Swedish investment in Indonesia reached US$8.69 million and ranked 28th. Current Swedish investment in Indonesia is focused on the infrastructure sector, particularly transportation. The Swedish machine manufacturer, Bombardier, is collaborating with PT Industri Kereta Api Persero (INKA) in the manufacture of railway carriages.
