Indonesia's Hunger Level Ranked Third Highest in Southeast Asia in 2021

Indonesia's hunger level, according to the Global Hunger Index (GHI), ranked third highest in Southeast Asia in 2021. Indonesia received an index score of 18 points, placing it in the moderate level. This score is above the global average of 17.9 points.

Meanwhile, the country with the highest hunger level in Southeast Asia is Timor Leste, reaching 32.4 points and falling into the serious level. Laos is next with a score of 19.5 points, placing it in the moderate level.

The country with the lowest hunger level in Southeast Asia is Thailand, with a hunger index score of 11.7 points, falling into the moderate category. The next lowest is Malaysia, with a score of 12.8 points, also in the moderate level.

The GHI depicts a country's hunger situation related to basic human physiological needs, namely food and nutrition. The GHI index score is based on four components: undernourishment, wasting among children, child stunting, and child mortality.

An index below 9.9 points indicates low hunger, 10-19.9 indicates moderate hunger, and 20-34.9 indicates serious hunger. Furthermore, an index of 35-49.9 indicates alarming hunger, and above 50 indicates extremely alarming hunger.
