Health Budget Down 21.8% in the 2022 State Budget

President Joko Widodo announced a health budget of Rp 255.3 trillion in the 2022 State Budget (RAPBN). This figure is a 21.8% decrease from the 2021 outlook of Rp 326.4 trillion.

The health budget is equivalent to 9.4% of state expenditure. The majority of the 2022 health budget is allocated through Central Government Expenditure (BPP), primarily through allocations to ministries/institutions (K/L) amounting to Rp 106.4 trillion. Non-K/L allocations amount to Rp 81 trillion, while transfers to regions and village funds (TKDD) amount to Rp 67.7 trillion.

The government focuses the health budget on four key areas. First, continuing the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic through vaccination programs, strengthening communication and surveillance of health protocols post-vaccination, and anticipating the handling of other Covid-19 pandemics.

Second, the health budget aims to continue health system reform. Third, the budget is used to accelerate the reduction of stunting, reaching all regencies/cities through synergy between the government and K/L.

Finally, the health budget is allocated to the continuity of the National Health Insurance (JKN) program. This JKN includes contribution assistance for recipients of contribution assistance (PBI) and non-wage earners (PBPU). It is also provided for civil servants (PNS), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the Indonesian National Police (Polri).
