10 Provinces with the Smallest National Economic Contributions in 2021

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Gorontalo's regional gross domestic product (RGDP) at current prices was Rp43.9 trillion in 2021.

Therefore, Gorontalo's RGDP contributed only 0.26% to the total national GDP, which reached Rp16.97 quadrillion in 2021. This contribution is the smallest compared to other provinces.

The next smallest contributing province is Maluku, at only 0.29% of the national GDP. This is followed by West Sulawesi at 0.3%, North Maluku at 0.31%, and Bengkulu at 0.47%.

Next are Bangka Belitung Islands with a 0.51% contribution to national GDP; West Papua with 0.53%; East Nusa Tenggara with 0.65%; and North Kalimantan and Southeast Sulawesi with 0.65% and 0.82% respectively.

All the provinces mentioned above have a contribution to the national GDP of less than 1%. Several of them are new provinces resulting from regional expansion.

Gorontalo is a result of the expansion of North Sulawesi Province, North Maluku from Maluku Province, and North Kalimantan from East Kalimantan Province.
