March Tobacco Excise Revenue Realization Reaches 26.5% of the 2022 State Budget Target

Tobacco excise tax revenue reached Rp56.84 trillion by March 2022, representing 26.5% of the 2022 State Budget (APBN) target.

The Director General of Customs and Excise, Askolani, stated that the 2022 APBN target for tobacco excise tax is expected to be met, supporting the 2022 APBN security.

"And we estimate, God willing, from our monitoring, hopefully the 2022 APBN target from tobacco excise tax can be fulfilled to support the security of our APBN in 2022," said Askolani in a meeting with Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Monday (4/4/2022).

Askolani mentioned that cigarette excise tax revenue has consistently exceeded targets over the past three years. From 2019 to 2021, CHT revenue averaged 105.2% of the annual target.

In 2019, cigarette excise tax revenue was recorded at Rp164.87 trillion, exceeding the APBN target by 103.8%. This increased to Rp170.24 trillion in 2020 (103.2% of the target), and further rose to Rp188.81 trillion in 2021 (108.6% of the target).

"We need to convey that tobacco excise tax makes a significant contribution to the State Budget (APBN). And we can see an upward trend," said Askolani.

This positive CHT revenue is influenced by the development of cigarette production volume, CHT tariff policies, and measures to control illegal cigarettes implemented by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.
