The Indonesian Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) found that government institutions wasted or were uneconomical with Rp787.9 billion (approximately USD 51.8 million) in the first semester of 2022.

Based on the managing institution of the budget, the uneconomical issues were distributed as follows:

* Central Government: 8 uneconomical issues with a value of Rp104.42 billion (approximately USD 6.9 million)
* Regional Governments: 1 uneconomical issue with an unrecorded value
* SOEs and other bodies: 44 uneconomical issues with a value of Rp683.48 billion (approximately USD 45 million)

Based on the above data, SOEs and other bodies were the government institutions that exhibited the most waste, both in terms of the number of issues and the value of uneconomical practices.

"Regarding the issues found, the BPK provided 24,796 recommendations, including to the relevant entity leaders to determine and/or recover losses, collect revenue shortfalls, and deposit them into state/regional/company coffers, as well as to strive to prevent potential losses from becoming actual losses," explained the BPK.

"Thus, state financial management and public services will be of higher quality and more beneficial in achieving national goals," concluded the BPK.
