Gibran Rakabuming Raka is being touted as a potential vice-presidential candidate (cawapres) to accompany Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres 2024).
The issue began when Prabowo Subianto, the General Chairperson of the Gerindra Party, commented on the Mayor of Solo, stating that Gibran could be considered as his running mate.
"I think as a figure (Gibran), yes, certainly as a figure, yes, his nature, yes, everything is taken into consideration. The important thing is, how about my people, I think that's the most important thing," said Prabowo, as reported by Kompas.com on Wednesday (August 9, 2023).
Most recently, Fadli Zon, the Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Party, stated that Gibran's name is on the list of candidates for Prabowo Subianto's running mate.
"Several names are already there. There's Cak Imin, Erick (Thohir), Airlangga (Hartarto), and Mas Gibran. That will be part of the deliberation," said Fadli, as reported by Detik.com on Thursday (August 24, 2023).
However, previously Gibran firmly rejected the issue of becoming a vice-presidential candidate, both from the PDI-P nomination and other parties. The eldest son of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) believes that he is not yet old enough and experienced enough to run in next year's Presidential Election.
"I'll focus on Solo first. Yes, thank you, I'll focus on Solo first," said Gibran, as quoted by Katadata.co.id on Thursday (August 3, 2023).
